I was thinking the other night what I could do differently
to get some unusual photos of my Kookas.
I’ve stacks of them interacting with themselves & others
at the Tapas Bar. More of them on my hand. Hundreds in flight. I play around
with Tapas Bar position and background view. And I’ve done it all to death.
Don’t get me wrong. Those photos will continue, as those are
the only options I have. But it did get me thinking.
The one thing I have that’s a constant is their desire to
eat. I can place a piece of meat anywhere & be confident they will fly in
& grab it.
With that thought in mind I started thinking “grab off what”.
And it occurred to me “off anything”
Would people pay for that? Product placement? So who’d be
interested in that………
KOOKABURRA Cricket Balls. That was my 1st thought.
I was telling a work colleague my thoughts and asked him if his kids played or
new anyone that played cricket as I’d like to borrow a ball. He laughed and
informed me he had just joined an indoor cricket team & had a new ball at
home. Seems the Gods were smiling.
So, ball in tow I set out to see if the birds would play the
game.
What I wanted was a photo of a bird flying in where all you
see is the ball with wings.
What I needed was a cricket stump. So back to Steve, who again
obliged me (thanks Steve).
The Idea. The one shot I wanted. A “Ball with wings”. I got it.
The shot I wanted!
KOOKABUURA Balls......
You'd swear they had wings.

KOOKABURRA Menace, from our Bodyline Series. Guaranteed to take off a head or two. |
A diving catch |
“If he can only hold on to it, this will be a simply marvellous catch” |
KOOKABURRA. "The name behind the ball" |
I’ve sent a few of these photos to the Marketing Manager at KOOKABURRA Sports to see if they are interested in entering into a dialogue.
Either way, it was a bit of fun. Not only the photos but
matching them with comments.
"Simply Marvellous" RIP Richie Benaud.
Update: Yesterday I received the following reply email to my offer;

Update: Yesterday I received the following reply email to my offer;
"I will follow up internally but I am sure we would be interested in using some images! Great shots!
We may look to replace the ball with a better quality ball!
Look forward to talking to you later in the week!"
I was surprised when I got a call today from his PA saying thanks but, not interested, as they already had Kooka photos posing with their product.
